The Experience
Introduction
Hyperion is a 2018 Intamin Hyper Coaster at Energylandia. It's incredible to think that a park which opened its gates for the first time in 2014, already had 10 coasters before 2018. However, Hyperion makes everything that happened previous to 2018 feel trivial as this behemoth of a rollercoaster, blew everything the country has ever seen, out of the water. Even after opening a ground-up hyper RMC the very next year, Hyperion still stands as one of Europe's greatest ever coasters.
You Were Warned
If one comes off Hyperion thinking "that was too much" then we really can't help but to respond with "you were warned". Hyperion doesn't hide itself and proudly presents its sprawling layout as It lavishly poses alongside the entire parking lot, towering over everything that enters the park with its enormous, pitch black structure. It adds a level of energy (no pun intended) as you enter the park, that is hard to describe. But the ride experience speaks for itself.
Out-And-Back-Twister Hybrid
While most traditional hypers are simple out-and-back layouts with grand camelbacks and perhaps a helix or two, Hyperion is equal part traditional hyper and twister. The second part of the layout is more like something you would see on smaller, more compact thrill coasters. This means that you get a first half filled with big drops, sustained ejector airtime and lots and lots of speed before the second half then switches it up, increasing the pace and throwing you from side to side, while still finding the time to eject you out of your seat. This results in a ride experience that includes the best from both worlds, ensuring the glorious, sustained airtime but without ever feeling repetitive or "one note". It's a surprisingly dynamic layout for such a huge ride.
Smooth whipping
Not only does Hyperion delight its rider with a great first drop and plenty of airtime, it also offers some classic "Intamin whip" and even has a dive loop (inversion) for its turnaround. It's very impressive for such a massive and intense ride, to be as smooth as it is, with only some very light rattling in a few spots, nothing that impacted our rides in the slightest. The seats are also very comfortable with great lapbars and we hope to see Intamin make more of these 4-seat trains in the future.
Conclusion
Hyperion is huge and impressive and the same thing can be said about its ride experience. It offers a fantastic first drop, huge airtime hills with sustained airtime, a cool dive loop, several moments of strong whip and lots of lots of speed, all while being smooth and comfortable. Honestly, what's not to love?
