Introduction
We visited Tivoli Friheden on April 18th, 2025, from 15:30 to 21:30. As our overall score reflects, this is currently the lowest-rated park we have visited. That does not make it a bad park outright, but as a small venue that dedicates roughly a third of its footprint to concert space, it has a long way to go to score high on our platform. If you enjoy an evening concert and don't care too much about coasters or water rides, Tivoli Friheden will do the trick; but without a single standout category, it ended up feeling more like a "park credit" stop rather than a destination worth revisiting.
Tivoli Friheden Review
Best Coaster

Vindfald is Friheden's newest coaster, replacing the old, compact inverted coaster Cobra, which closed in 2022 after a fatal accident. Despite its tiny size for a thrill coaster, we actually had some expectations going into this; as a brand-new Gerstlauer, it surely had to be miles better than the ride it replaced. However, we left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The vertical lift is cool, as always, and both the first drop and inversions deliver decent force. Unfortunately, despite being a new ride, Vindfald is surprisingly rough, jittering about with those large over-the-shoulder restraints and leading to defensive riding. Another major problem is that as soon as you leave the lift hill, the ride is over before you know it. It has a solid, although extremely short, layout, but the tracking and the restraints really let it down here. Overall, it's an okay coaster, but we had hoped for more.
Coaster Depth

We cannot expect much from a park this small, but limited space should ideally lead to quality over quantity. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Outside of Vindfald, the park offers two small junior coasters - an SBF Visa spinner and a Pinfari Wacky Worm - and Tyfonen, a Zamperla spinning coaster which, on our visit, barely even spun at all. A spinning wild mouse that didn't spin and two junior coasters naturally places the park far down on the scale. The options for what Friheden can add are limited, especially if they prefer not to place rides at or around the concert space, but a more broad-covering family coaster - perhaps one from Gerstlauer - would do so much for this park.
Water Rides
0Unfortunately, Friheden doesn't have any actual water rides. They have some small boats you ride around in a lake but we don't count that as a water ride. Therefore, there really is only one score we can give in this category.
Flatrides And Darkrides

This is an area where Friheden performs better than its coaster lineup. Himmelrum is a fun swing ride that had the potential to be genuinely great, though its experience is neutered now that the seats no longer spin freely as they did when it first opened. Hjertekig is Denmark's tallest free-fall tower, but it is overall a weaker drop tower than other Danish equivalents, such as El Grito at Djurs Sommerland or even the small Cobratårnet at BonBon-Land. They do have Sky Tower, which offers a true free-fall experience and has become part of the park's identity, but we don't really count upcharges as part of the score.
On the dark ride front, the park features both an interactive 5D cinema and an interactive zombie hunt - a conversion of their old classic haunted house, and honestly, a substantial downgrade at that. Unfortunately, neither experience left much of an impression, and beyond that, there is only Sommerfuglen, a tiny Gerstlauer Sky Racer good for a ride or two, followed by a handful of kiddie flats. Had the experience of the drop tower matched its size, had the pendulum still featured fully rotating gondolas, and had they kept the classic haunted house, the park most likely would have scored much higher.

Park Appearance

Friheden is an inner-city amusement park situated in the middle of Aarhus - not unlike Tivoli Gardens or Liseberg - but that is largely where the similarities end. Friheden is not an inherently beautiful park and only makes weak attempts at scattered theming. Though it possesses a more intimate and energetic atmosphere than most regular theme parks, it could really use some centerpiece attractions, like a carousel or a wave swinger, to bring more classic ride energy to the space. The park does have its moments; for instance, watching the sunset from the Ferris wheel or seeing Vindfald light up in blue and red at night makes it clear that this is a park best experienced after dark. It should be said that this is not the cleanest park, and its cleanliness only worsened as the evening progressed. Expect inner-city charm and good vibes, not immersive theming or pristine grounds.
Park Practicality

Tivoli Friheden is small enough a park that you would normally expect quite a high score here, given the small footprint, and while the park does have a simple T-shaped layout and is easy to navigate, basic information is oddly difficult to find. Restaurant locations were unclear, toilets were tucked away down dark alleys, and some rides were hidden behind the concert area, which becomes relevant later. Overall we can't say that it's a downright impractical park but we didn't feel like they utilized their inherent advantage of being a small park very well in terms of the natural flow of direction and ride placements etc.
Food
6Food quality at the park seemed decent, backed by a solid selection ranging from classic amusement park staples like burgers and pizza to sit down restaurants and a beer garden. We didn't see any unique food options but we had an above average burger and left with no real complaints, which earns this category a respectable score.
Snacks And Drinks
4.5Snack selection was minimal, with only a few carts scattered around the park offering small assortments of candy or liquorice. The limited permanent food stands mainly served ice cream and churros. We tried the ice cream and were left disappointed, and the lack of variety keeps this score firmly below average.
Ride Operations

We will keep this one brief. Crowd levels were low and queues were never more than 5 minutes so they can be excused for their somewhat slow dispatches. Staff was friendly and there were no ride breakdowns during our visit so overall the park did decent here.
Park Management

Tivoli Friheden hosts concerts every Friday, which are included with the entrance ticket. While this added a fun and unexpected element to our visit, it also caused the park to quickly shift from a theme park to a concert venue, complete with visibly intoxicated and irresponsible teenagers throughout the grounds. To the park’s credit, the concert area was heavily staffed with both employees and security throughout the evening.
However, other issues weighed down the score. While we were looking at a menu at a sit-down restaurant, a waiter removed it from the wall and replaced it with a new one - priced at nearly three times as much due to the upcoming concert. Additionally, merchandise availability was extremely limited, and it was often unclear when, or even if, restaurants were open.
Overall, the management category - and pretty much our entire day - at Friheden can best be described as a mixed bag. It is a great place to take someone who isn't particularly interested in theme parks or coasters for a chill day, perhaps ending with a concert; but as hardcore theme park goers, we found it lags behind most other parks.
