Introduction
Tyfonen is a 2006 Zamperla Twister Coaster at Tivoli Friheden. This is a classic sinning wildmouse coaster from a manufacturer who specializes in making that exact ride type. Tyfonen has been at Friheden for over 20 years and have served as the main supporting coaster with three different thrill coasters and while most of them have come and gone, Tyfonen is still here.
Presentation is...key?
Presentation does a lot and we personally value theming quite high as it really can elevate an otherwise unimpressive coaster to a memorable experience. Tyfonen perfectly illustrates this but not in the way that we would like. Whereas their newest coaster 'Vindfald' is integrated into the surroundings very well, Tyfonen looks and feels like a temporary coaster that just never left. It's sitting inside a steel cage and the entire area of the ride feels like an ongoing construction site, where ugly concrete dominate and small bricks are pushed in under supports to keep them steady. It gives the coaster a very sketchy and cheap feel which is really unnecessary as Zamperla is a major player in the market and there is nothing actually wrong with the coaster or its safety, but its presentation lets it down heavily.
You had one job!
Sp what can you expect from Tyfonen? Well, it's a spinning wildmouse so expect hairpin turns, lots of small dips and a spinning vehicle. The hairpin turns doesn't really do much given the vehicle and seating positions (at least compared to an actual wildmouse) but the qucik turns and small dips still does bring some joy to a coaster that otherwise doesn't really have anything noteworthy in its layout. Spinning coasters and especially spinning wildmouse coasters are all about the spinning but unfortunately, while it is possible to get some good spinning on Tyfonen, during our visit, it barely spun at all. Granted, though we did only get a single ride on it so we hope to see it perform better in this regard, in the future. The problem with these types of rides is simple that they don't have anything outside the turns and small dips so if the spinning doesn't hit, nothing really does. It would be cool to see a spinning wildmouse that used the large park variant from Mack Rides but with spinning on it, as that would at least have a sizable drop on it
Conclusion
As it stands, Tyfonen sits as a very weak coaster in our coaster rankings. Not only is it a somewhat janky coaster that looks straight up ugly given its construction-like area and lack of any theming whatsoever but a spinning wildmouse that barely spins just doesn't have that much to offer. We'll make sure to keep an eye out on our next visit and see if we can get a better ride on it, hopefully one with a lot more spinning as well and if so, we'll make sure to bump its rating to its rightful place.
