Introduction
We visited Djurs Sommerland on April 16th, 2025 as the first park on our Jylland-based Easter trip. Now, even though this is our first official trip to the park, it should be said that this is a park we've been to many times over the years, from childhood to just a couple of years before this trip, so this is a bit of a 'comfort park' for us. It's a very nice park but not without its shortcomings, so let's talk about it!
Djurs Sommerland Review
Best Coaster
6.5The best coaster race is often a tight one between the park's three Intamin coasters, but usually we would expect Piraten to take the crown towards the end of the day when it's running at its peak. However, as you can see in the gallery, Piraten, alongside Skatteøen, actually broke down (mid-lift-hill evacuations and all) and therefore, we only got 3 rides on it, all of them being in the first half of the day and if you know anything about Piraten, it's that it really needs to warm up before it gets good. Therefore, we actually awarded best coaster to Juvelen which in itself is no slouch. It's a long layout filled with tight turns and a great boost launch into a genuinely intense turn afterward. While it is perhaps slightly repetitive and the 2 "camelbacks" don't give any air at all, it's still a very fun, smooth and overall satisfying coaster that takes the crown as Djurs' best coaster, but we're sure that the battle is going to be just as close on our next visit!
Coaster Depth
6.5The supporting coaster line-up is overall solid. Djurs has a well-varied collection of kids and family coasters, starting all the way at the tiny Jungle Rally and stretching all the way to a very large family-thrill coaster in Dragekongen. Piraten is their one thrill coaster, though it is a fairly accessible one. Overall, Djurs' coaster line-up is good but there is still plenty of room for improvement, especially regarding having a thrill coaster with inversions as there is currently not a single ride in the entirety of the park which offers that.
Water Rides
6.5Just like their coaster line-up, Djurs sports a solid and varied collection of water rides though without sporting an actual great one. It has a decent log flume in Long Cun Expedition, an okay rapids ride in Rio Grande River and a fun water coaster in Skatteøen. While it is nothing to dive headfirst over, it is a fairly adequate set of attractions to combat the hot summer days (and they even have a mini-flume for the young ones). A 6.5 is in order.
Flatrides And Darkrides
6.5Continuing with the theme of being above-average without truly making a splash, Djurs brings a fairly large collection of flat rides to the table. While most of them are fairly basic and aimed towards a younger audience, they do have a few true standouts here. Tigeren is a genuinely amazing flat ride, one of our favorites in fact, and they also, as of 2024, have an actual proper drop tower in El Gritto. The polyp known as 'Soulken' is an underrated ride and the tilting family drop tower 'Sablen' is a unique attraction in itself. Djurs' biggest downfall here is without a doubt the fact that they don't have a dark ride at all. They used to have an Africa-themed boat ride but the closest we come now is their car ride 'Dino Xpedition' which has a small dark ride section in it. The lack of a dark ride is a huge, gaping hole for a theme park like this and it would rocket their rating upwards if they actually got one.
Park Appearance
8Djurs Sommerland is a very nice park to walk around in and one of the reasons for this is its pretty appearance with lots of greenery and a very traditional "Summerland" feel that it has maintained despite it now being so much more than just a summerland park. Now, it is a very flat park and doesn't have any huge structures to be wowed by or a pretty lake in the middle so it does feel a bit more plain than some other, more intricate parks, but the bottom line is, it's a very nice and lively park with good theming and a comfortable atmosphere.
Park Practicality
9Back to some positives! Djurs is a really practical park to navigate around. The layout is essentially a long square with two main paths on each side, connecting at the front and the back of the park, while having a few interconnecting paths between them. They also have a really good app, many facilities and easy-to-find entrances.
Food
5.5The food in Djurs Sommerland is okay. It has a decent selection though the options are quite basic like burgers, pizza, sandwiches and a food marketplace. The burger, nuggets and fries that we got were of decent quality but quite plain in terms of ingredients and taste. Overall, we get the feeling that Djurs is currently playing it very safe when it comes to their food offerings and we would like to see them put in a bit more effort here.
Snacks And Drinks
3Now let me tell you about the snacks that we got here, oh boy...We actually had fairly high expectations for the kind of snacks a nice park like Djurs would offer but what we were given was the equivalent of an icicle made of leather, painted brown and served on a stick. They looked nice, but never in our lives have we had so called "waffles" be so dry that it was actually inedible. It takes a lot for us not to eat waffles with chocolate on but Djurs actually managed to do it. Now the selection of snacks was quite decent so we don't want to place Djurs in the basement but next time, they need to do a lot better here!
Ride Operations
88 is a great score but Djurs was actually on the path of scoring even higher since the dispatches were fast and efficient and the staff were downright amazing in how they were dressed and interacted with people. We did see one-train ops on Juvelen for the first half of the day but they later put in a second train. The big thing here is when both Piraten and Skatteøen had major breakdowns at the same time, requiring mid-lift-hill evacuations and the rides shutting down for the remaining time (there was about an hour or so left anyway but we were hoping to catch some re-rides on Piraten before we left). Overall, this big blow-up at the end doesn't hurt their score more than it should, but it should still be clear that the operations at Djurs are great.
Park Management
9.5Perhaps the best thing about Djurs Sommerland is how well it is run. The park is well staffed, the staff is always friendly and offers great service. There is free parking, you can bring your own food and drinks into the park to eat at the many picnic tables and the merch game is very strong. There also wasn't a single pre-closed ride at our visit. We didn't have a single thing to complain about when it comes to how they run the park and it's one of the things that ensures you almost always have a good time at Djurs Sommerland.
