The Experience
Introduction
Dwervelwind is a 2012 Mack Rides Spinning Coaster at Toverland. This is a clone of Twist at Le Pal from the year before and is one of two 'intermediate' coasters are Toverland. This was our first spinning coaster by Mack and we were quite impressed with several aspects of the ride, with a few things holding it back.
Magical Vibes
If you've ever been to Toverland, you know that they're into fantasy/magic and Dwervelwind is no different. It sits in its own little secluded area in one corner of the park but luckily, this doesn't feel like a "forgotten coaster in the back" kind of situation but more of a nice little detour with a decent family coaster to boot. The queue is very nice but especially the station stands out with its lush hanging-garden roof and magical soundtrack. Overall, the theming really works in giving the ride a distinct feeling and keeping up the immersion that Toverland establishes.
A compact but strong Layout
Dwervelwinds layout is a fairly compact one but it's definitely a stronger layout than many other spinning coasters, especially compared to a standard spinning wildmouse. It features a tall overbank and several twists and drops. It's not the most forceful ride but that is not really the point of most family spinners anyhow. Overall this coaster feels faster and the layout is more exciting than a lot of other spinners, which we really enjoyed.
The Anti-Spin Spell
One thing that Dwervelwind unfortunately didn't do too much of on any of our two rides, were spinning. It's not like it doesn't spin at all but it's very much a slow and quite controlled rotation which means that you never get that "out of control" feeling but instead ends up taking elements at an odd angle. This is fine given the fairly strong layout but we always like our spinning coasters to spin as much as possible (within reason at least) and Dwervelwind didn't do too much of that. This might be due to the Mack trains and the seating positions which seems to keep the train balanced and therefore the spinning to a minimum - or maybe we were just unlucky, we will have to see once we return to Toverland again.
Conclusion
Overall, Toverland is an above average family coaster, offering an exciting and smooth layout with good pace and exciting elements. It is rather short and we wish it would spin more but thanks to its smoothness and layout, there are still an appropriate amount of thrills to be had on this whimsical spinner!
