The Experience
Introduction
Vilde Mus is a 2012 Wilde Maus coaster from Mack Rides at Bakken. It's ironic that the oldest amusement park in the world, has one of the newest Wilde Maus coasters. This is the same Compact variant as the Dark Knight coaster at various Six Flags parks and serves as one of two family coasters at Bakken.
Mice Infestation
We do find it quite appropriate for a classic amusement park like Bakken to have one of the most iconic ride models, one that is usually associated with smaller, regional parks where theming doesn't play as big of a role. This one, does actually have some theming however as it's nicely tugged in on the far side of Bakken, masked at yet another colorful village-like building like so many others at this old-school park. The entire ride is sort of semi-enclosed in this square space behind the farmhouse-like facade facing the park and the station and lift-hill are also enclosed. We wouldn't say that this is great theming and once you're on the ride, it still feels very much like a portable ride with visible supports and a lack of any real theming but the ride does play with the idea of being mice, traveling around a farmhouse which is quite nice and therefore have some base level of immersion.
Been There, Done That
Wild-Mouse coasters can be solid, either through theming, spinning or by having an expanded layout like the large park variant from Mack Rides. Unfortunately, this only has some light theming but no spinning and no exciting layout. You do still get treated to the hairpin turns with good laterals and solid views but the rest of the layout really isn't anything too exciting. Small dip, turn, brakes, turn, small dip and repeat. At least this one doesn't brake much at all but the overall thrill factor and fun factor remains quite low. These rides can also be a bit of a tight fit and quite janky, but they are not rough in the slightest. Overall, nothing much new can be said about a classic wild mouse other than...well...it's a wild mouse.
Bottom of the Mouse-Chain
As we said, many bigger, faster and better wild-mouse or mouse-alike coasters can be find, not only from Mack like the before-mentioned Large Park variant but also from Gerstlauer and their Bobsled model which has smaller 4-seat trains and often include hairpin turns just like the ones on Vilde Mus while also delivering a much more dynamic and exciting layout. Spinning can also make it more thrilling and adds some re-rideability to an otherwise uninspired layout. Unfortunately, Vilde Mus just doesn't have this and is therefore left with okay theming, some jank and a very uninspired layout that doesn't really offer much than some laterals.
Conclusion
Vilde Mus is a somewhat lackluster family coaster. While the ride isn't rough and has an okay ride duration, the layout (at least this variant) is quite dull and doesn't offer much in terms of forces. The fact that there is barely any on-ride theming and given its somewhat janky ride experience, this ride just feels a bit outdated. To conclude, it's not bad, it's just... a Wild Mouse.
