The Experience

Introduction

Mine Train Ulven is a 1997 Intamin family coaster at Bakken. This is the parks intermediate family coaster, a classic sitdown family-thrill ride which has a tendency to surprise riders with its thrilling first drop and deceptional forceful ride experience. We really enjoy Ulven and it's honestly a way better family coaster than what you would expect to find at a small park like Bakken.

Extra Hidden Gem

Whereas the old wooden coaster has a dominating presence, working as the park's centerpiece and being visible from almost everywhere in the park, Ulven sits quietly to the side, with most of its layout hidden behind some trees and rockwork. From the outside, there really isn't anything that would entertain the idea of this coaster being anything more than just another minor family coaster (something like a Vekoma Junior Coaster). In reality though, this is a well above average family coaster that offers more thrills than it lets on and in that sense, it's a real hidden gem, both figuratively and literally (though it is a coaster, not a gem).

Unusual but Exciting!

Ulven is an unusual mine train in the fact that it doesn't feature a long and sprawling layout but instead has a compact and fairly intense layout instead. The first surprise that people will get when riding this coaster, is the first drop. Its both bigger and steeper than a lot of family coasters, mine-trains or not and it's actually a thrilling drop in the backrow. The layout following is one of modest size, consisting mostly of tight turns and decently fast transitions, but offering a fast pace and solid positive G's throughout.Ulvens final breaks are located inside a form of maintenance shed, witch gives the ride some personality and overall solidifies that this ride had more to it than what meets the eye.

Conclusion

Overall, while Ulven might not look like much from the outside, don't be fooled by its modest demeanor, Ulven delivers a fast and exciting - though also short - ride experience. It's not the most dynamic, especially not compared to modern Intamin family coasters, but it's smooth and fairly thrilling and definitely one of the better family coasters in Denmark.

Regarding its name: "mine" is the same in both danish and english, "Train" is english and "Ulven" is danish and means "The wolf". Therefore it's actually a mixture between to languages but the full name translated to english would be: "Mine train: The Wolf"
