Introduction

We visited Phantasialand on July 20th, 2024, with very high expectations for our first time at the park. It more than delivered. The theming, immersion, and attention to detail felt on par with what you would expect from Disneyland or Universal Studios, only here, the world-class dark rides are replaced with great coasters and thrilling flat rides. One big disclaimer is that we did not travel alone and therefore this was not a true Parkrating trip, which meant that we only had one day at the park which was more relaxed and less ride-focused than usual. As a result, we missed out on several re-rides and our data is not quite as good as usual, but hey, guess that means we have to come back, right?

Best Coaster

Best Coaster
The category that we found the hardest to rate was "Best Coaster" since it's the one that was hit the hardest by the type of trip we were on. We only got two rides on F.L.Y and a single on Taron and Black Mamba, which is far below our standard for such notable rides. In the end we went with F.L.Y as the best coaster given its extremely smooth ride experience, immersive theming and how it majestically soars around Rookburgh.
F.L.Y is a state-of-the-art coaster with a cool loading procedure and a unique launch in the flying position. The ride experience itself wasn't that fantastic and the flying position is a bit awkward and we weren't exactly blown away, but we are very curious to get back to this coaster and see what it really can do on a proper Parkrating trip.

Coaster Depth

The supporting coaster line-up of Phantasialand is one of quality and variation.If F.L.Y is the best coaster in the park, Taron and Black Mamba are 2 formidable supporting coasters to have. Taron with its long, smooth, winding track, offering many whippy turns and airtime moments. Black Mamba with its intense inversions and powerful ride experience. Too bad we only got to try these two great coasters once.Winjas, Crazy Bats and Colorado Adventure are all 3 of the best family coasters we've tried while bringing completely different ride experiences.You do not want to miss out on the coasters of this park.

Water Rides

It did not take long for us to agree on a second perfect 10. Chiapas is the best log flume we have been on and is arguably the best of its kind in the world. River Quest is wild, chaotic, and completely its own thing. The only thing missing? A third water ride, then we might have broken the scale.

Park Appearance

Phantasialand's biggest strength is obvious as soon as you get to the park. The theming is some of the most immersive we have seen, delivering an otherworldly level of quality and consistency. But more so than just the quantity and quality of the theming, Phantasialand's areas are a lot different and a whole lot more unique than the usual western and simple fantasy themes you see at most European theme parks, giving a truly unique and immersive feeling while traversing the park. It also makes the park feel a lot bigger and richer than its somewhat modest size and amount of attractions.

Park Practicality

As we have come to accept, the price of immersion is navigation. Phantasialand is filled with twisted paths that overlap in ways that make sense thematically but not always practically. In addition, ride entrances are sometimes hard to find, and rest areas are rare. The app and well-placed screens in the park help, but it takes some effort.

Food

Food
We had lunch at Uhrwerk, and as is tradition, we had to order a burger. It lived up to expectations, easily becoming the best theme park burger we have tried since this slightly odd obsession began. As the gallery shows, it might not look the part, but it packed a punch. Add the fact that FLY flies by just outside, along with the beautiful theming of the restaurant, and we are bound to rate it highly. Let us hope the rest of the park's dining follows suit when we visit again later.

We had high hopes after trying the burger at Uhrwerk, and the snack game mostly delivered. The mocktails were great, and the variety was solid across the park. That said, no soft ice with churros was a letdown. With a few more iconic snack pairings, this score could have gone even higher.

Ride Operations

Phantasialand operated like a well-oiled machine, with efficient dispatches and proactive queue management throughout. The only hiccup? Taron was down when we arrived in the morning, which definitely gave us a good scare. Luckily, it opened after an hour or so and from there, we didn't experience anything but fantastic operations.

Phantasialand ran a tight ship with no facility closures and a polished overall experience. But they did have a major ride closed the entire day in Talocan and it's also baffling to us that a park this rich in detail and immersion offers little in the way of merchandise, unless you're in the market for a waving plastic cat.
