The Experience
Introduction
Lisebergbanan is a classic Schwarzkopf steel coaster from 1987 at Liseberg, Sweden. This is the oldest operating coaster at the park, and one of the oldest rides still operating at Liseberg. Over the years, we have gotten to know this ride quite well, having both witnessed the awesome operations, including the very fascinating process of adding another train to the course, but also getting evacuated off the midcourse, getting to go through the restricted area and even getting to touch the actual track itself. Therefore, this coaster is special to us and we honor this by always making sure to grab a ride or two on this classic Schwarzkopf beauty, on every visit.
A Zierer Collaboration
Since Schwarzkopf no longer existed as a company, Anton Schwarzkopf needed help manufacturing his new designs. Lisebergbanan was his first major project post-bankruptcy and for this one, he chose to collaborate with German manufacturer Zierer as well as BHS for the track fabrication. We're ever grateful that Anton Schwarzkopf was still able to make rollercoasters even after his company went bankrupt as Lisebergbanan is a beautiful terrain coaster that we otherwise wouldn't have had, and lets be honest, there is no true replacement for a Schwarzkopf coaster.
Mega Minetrain
At 147,7 ft, this is the tallest coaster that is still considered a family coaster (though it's debatable). Just shy of 4.400 ft of track and a top speed of almost 50 mph, it truly is a mighty beast of a mine-train and this absolutely is mirrored in its ride experience.Lisebergbanan is all about great views and high speeds, either meandering around the hill top, proudly presenting the rest of Liseberg and a good chunk of the surrounding Göteborg, or diving into one of its three big, sweeping drops along the hill side. Lisebergbanan is a true terrain coaster that perfectly uses the hill to its advantage, offering one long, well-paced layout, all from just a single lift hill, a truly impressive feat.
Going Nowhere Fast
While Lisebergbanan is a very large coaster both in terms of height and length, for a ride that is both a terrain coaster and a mine train coaster, the layout really isn't that sprawling. Lisebergbanan is surprisingly compact, all things considered, often revisiting the same areas multiple times, like the 3 large swooping drops that all dive down into this small tunnel. This provides exciting opportunities that aren't normally a possibility from a single lift hill but it also does mean you don't quite get that same level of adventure as with more classic, isolated mine-train-style coasters. From a pure force-focused perspective, Lisebergbanan offers speeds and drop much larger than regular family coasters, though it also doesn't quite perform as many exciting maneuvers as the more modern counterparts and you won't find much more in terms of forces than the high speeds and some solid positives in a few spots.
Overpopulation
If you look up old pictures of Lisebergbanan (or if you're old enough to remember) then you will quickly realize two things:Lisebergbanan used to only share the hillside with FlumeRide and there used to be a lot more trees as well.Our point is, while we did experience an absolutely awesome moment on one of our rides, where we were running side-by-side with Helix, which gave so much energy and excitement, we still can't help but to think that the lack of Helix, Luna and the many people walking the different pathways, actually helped the overall ride experience back then. It must have felt much more isolated and adventurous. Now, obviously, all these rides are so very welcome and has helped shape Liseberg into the attraction-paradise it is today but perhaps Lisebergbanan is the one ride that would actually benefit from having less rides - and more trees - around it.
Conclusion
Lisebergbanan is a huge family-thrill coaster. Its both a minetrain and classic terrain coaster, taking perfect advantage of Liseberg's hillside to create one long and continuous ride experience, offering great views, sweeping drops and high speed. It's not the most forceful or unique coaster out there in terms of its layout or the elements it has but it always deliver a great time and is an absolute must-ride if you enjoy classic coasters.

Zierer is credited as the manufacturer on RCDB as they technically finished the project since Schwarzkopf went bankrupt doing its construction but we still regard it as a Schwarzkopf coaster as he designed the ride and used his track.
