The Experience
Introduction
Dæmonen is a 2004 Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) floorless coaster at Tivoli Gardens in Denmark.This is one of the additions of the 2000s coaster boom we saw in Denmark where parks started to slowly but surely invest in new, modern thrill coasters and Tivoli Gardens did not want to be left behind.
Denmarks only B&M
While many other parks went for new and unproven models by the likes of Gerstlauer and Intamin, Tivoli Gardens - Interestingly enough - went for a floorless looping coaster by the swiss giants and to this date, Dæmonen is still the only ever B&M coaster in Denmark. What made this choice even more bewildering was the chosen area for this coaster. There was almost no room and given the general size of B&M coasters, it must have been a true challenge, fitting this small beast into such a tiny area but the park is all the better for it.
Theming & Thrills
If you have ever been to Tivoli Gardens you know that theming and immersion is the name of the game. This is an inherent strength for the rides as it really is much more fun flying over and under beautiful, oriental building and temples versus just going around on a flat field. Dæmonen has style and a real sense of personality that compliments it well and it doesn't feel out of place despite being in a park that doesn't seem like it would have a B&M looper in it.
A little powerhouse
The stats of this dwarfed B&M looper are truly mediocre. Less than 2k ft of track, a 65 ft drop and a top speed of 48 mph, you would be excused thinking this was a small Gerstlauer euro-fighter but don't be fooled, this ride does actually pack a good punch. It pulls 4gs and has 3 strong inversions. The Zero-G Roll is the standout moment on the ride with how it barrels through it. Besides the individual elements in the layout, B&M loopers just have a characteristic feeling of power to them that we both really enjoy which is one of the reasons why this coaster ranks higher for us than for a lot of other people.
The downside of the downsize
Now, while Dæmonen has great theming, fits into its park almost perfectly and offers a fun and powerful ride experience, there are still several downsides to this ride. First of all, it lacks the big great drops of bigger coasters. It does have a pre-drop which means you take the actual drop with some speed but it's still just a 65.5 ft drop. It also lacks speed and is a short ride. It does also have some shake to it, though nothing we thought disrupted the ride at all but all of these points are just to say that this ride is much more enjoyable if you come in with the expectations of: "how did the fit a small looper in here" rather than "oh wow a B&M floorless coaster insert big american floorless here".
Conclusion
Overall, we really enjoy Dæmonen as it offers a type of feeling ride experience that is much different from the other thrill coasters of Denmark (especially Piraten and Fønix). Dæmonen gets a 7 for its power, great theming and fun inversions and we do think it's currently one of the better coasters in the country.
